Welcoming a newborn into the world is such a special time, and capturing these early moments is something you’ll cherish forever. As a Baltimore newborn photographer, I specialize in creating a relaxed, safe, and stress-free experience for families.
There are a few key things to keep in mind to ensure a smooth, successful newborn session—and I’m here to guide you through every step!
Newborn Safety is My Top Priority
When working with newborns, safety always comes first. Throughout your baby’s session, I continually monitor their breathing, skin color, and overall comfort to ensure they are completely safe. With my extensive nursing background as a pediatric nurse practitioner, combined with my expertise in newborn photography and posing, I know how to keep your baby comfortable while capturing the sweetest moments.
I also keep the studio warm to mimic the womb’s environment, which helps babies feel cozy and settled. Your little one will stay diapered the entire time, wrapped in soft, breathable fabrics that allow them to stay snug and sleepy.
Before Your Newborn Session
Before your session, we’ll chat several times to go over styling and preparation. I provide everything you need for baby—including perfectly sized newborn outfits, wraps, bonnets, and headbands—so there’s nothing you need to bring for them.
For parents and siblings, we’ll coordinate outfits ahead of time to ensure a cohesive, timeless look. My studio offers a full client closet for moms and children, so you’ll have access to beautiful, flattering wardrobe options that photograph beautifully.
What to Expect When You Arrive at the Studio
When you arrive at my Monkton, Maryland photography studio, I want you to feel relaxed and at home. Here’s what you can expect:
✔ Kick Off Your Shoes & Get Comfortable – The first thing you’ll do is settle into the lounge area, where you’ll have full view of the studio.
✔ Feed Baby for a Full Belly – Before we begin, I’ll have you feed your baby to ensure they’re sleepy and content for their session. I offer a private nursing area, a Boppy pillow, and a bottle warmer if you need one.
✔ Change Baby into a Diaper Only – After feeding, I’ll have you place baby on the changing table and leave them in just a diaper. From here, I’ll take over, dressing and wrapping them in a soft, snug outfit.
How the Session Flows
1. Family Photos First – We always begin with family photos. If baby is awake but calm and comfortable, we’ll still move forward with this part of the session. If baby needs breaks, that’s completely fine—we’ll pause as needed.
2. Baby Portraits – Once family portraits are finished, you can sit back and relax while I photograph baby. The lounge area has a full view of the studio, so you’re welcome to watch, stand near me, or take behind-the-scenes videos!
3. Taking Breaks When Needed – If your baby is gassy, has reflux, or needs extra soothing, I have experience adjusting poses to keep them comfortable. I always have burp cloths and pacifiers on hand if needed.
Relax & Enjoy the Experience
I know how overwhelming those first few weeks with a newborn can be, which is why I strive to make your session as stress-free as possible. I’ll guide the entire process so you can relax and enjoy watching the magic happen.
With my background in pediatric nursing—including pediatric ICU experience, working with babies with reflux, GI issues, and special needs—I am uniquely equipped to handle any situation. You can rest easy knowing your baby is in safe, experienced hands.
If you’re searching for a newborn photographer in Baltimore County who prioritizes safety, experience, and timeless photography, I’d love to work with you!
